They are bred to be busy and have a job. What is your color and sex preference and why? Acceptable Australian Shepherd colors include black tri, blue merle, red tri and red merle. I understand Aussies are active, energetic dogs that need mental and physical exercise and my entire family is prepared to use training tools to maintain proper descipline for my aussies needs. I understand Aussies are a double-coated breed and will need to be groomed on a regular basis. I also understand that Aussies shed year round. In general, weekly brushing sessions will keep the Australian Shepherd's coat looking it's best. They should be bathed and blow dried ever 8 weeks to maintain a healthy coat. As with all breeds, their toenails should be trimmed regularly. * I understand Aussies need extensive work and training. *Early socialization and obedience training are both musts for Australian Shepherds. One of the most frequent reasons Aussies end up in rescue situations is owner didn't correct lunging at others, allowing excessive barking and encouraged bad behaviors. Aussies can be territorial and overprotective of their owners' property. Fortunately, that loyalty combined with the breed's keen intelligence and high energy makes them very easy to train. * Yes I will sign up for an obedience class. No I will train the dog myself.
