Who we are
Montacc Australian Shepherds is a small family-owned kennel located in San Diego, California. We breed standard size AKC/ASCA registered Australian Shepherds. The name Montacc is our registered kennel name and is a mix of the two great places we love, Montana and California.
We are lucky enough to spend many summers on the beaches of California where we raised our kids, surfing and camping with our dogs. In addition, we pack up the crew every couple of months and take the dogs to Montana where they have acres to run. They love to go boating with us, running through the snow as fast as they can , and spend long days hanging at the lake swimming and jumping off the rocks into the water.
We are also very busy competing with our dogs. We show and present our dogs in conformation, run agility weekly and love trying different sports like dock diving, trick dog and rally. We all really enjoy herding!
What we do
It all starts with breeding healthy dogs that have nice temperaments and are wonderful to live with. After all, they will be part of your family and we want them to be a great addition and lead a long, healthy life.
Our dogs… We do extensive genetic testing to ensure healthy dogs before we breed. The test results are important to ensure only the healthiest dog are bred. This also includes testing of hips & elbows at age two (hip dysplasia), and eyes (yearly). We feed our dogs the best food, give them lots of training and exercise, and they enjoy their best life!
Our puppies… so much can be done to set these babies up for a lifetime of success in the first 8 weeks of life. We dock all tails and remove dew claws. Then we get started with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises which expose the puppies to tactile and temperature differences before the age of 16 days. The program was developed by the US Military and designed to improve the performance of future military working dogs, according to the Breeding Better Dogs program developed by Dr. Carmen Battaglia,
As the puppies begin to grow and play we provide different challenges, sounds and environments to gently challenge the pups and develop their confidence. Puppies begin crate training, potty training, manners and simple commands before they go to their new homes. They will be AKC/ASCA registered as well and receive their “puppy general health check” and eye checked at 7 weeks, to ensure they are healthy and ready for their new home.
